Adventures on Skidaway

I wrote a story once in 4th grade about how I fell out of our pop-up camper. I was young and had to sleep against the canvas so I wouldn't roll off onto the floor.  Well, our pop-up was vintage and apparently had a few holes in the canvas.  My big sister (her official name until I was 25) and my father were already asleep.   I was asleep, until I rolled over and fell onto the ground. I thought my father would be mad, he was pretty intimidating back then, so I started calling out for my "Big Sister" "Big Sister".   It was then that my mom came strolling back from the bath house and found me lying on the dirt. It's funny now to look back on, I can't imagine the thoughts whizzing through my mother's head as she saw me sprawled out on the ground in my pajamas calling out for my sister. I've always had a knack for embellishing, but I promise I'm not.  My 4th grade teacher didn't believe me either. She called my mom to tell her I misunderstood the assignment being that it was supposed to be a factual story.  Fortunately, once again Mommy came to my rescue and informed the lady that I wasn't making this one up!
On New Years Day I went adventuring through Skidaway Island State Park. Walking the trails conjured up so many memories of past adventures I had on those family camping trips.  I won my first photo award because of a picture I took on one of those trips.  Skidaway did prove to be quite a challenge.  I'm not used to being out in the wild solo. Lately, I always make a certain boyscout tag along, but he was busy doing yard work.  So I went out alone.  I encountered a really creepy guy and maybe I'm paranoid but it took me half an hour before I felt comfortable again.  I kept looking over my shoulder expecting to see him stalking me.  Seeing that it's now three months later and I'm posting this obviously he didn't attempt to come after me.  But as soon as I did feel brave again I got knocked back down a few notches...
You might notice a picture about half-way down of a sweet little lizard.  Don't let him fool you. Even scarier than the pervert I happened upon earlier was this little reptile.  When walking alone in the woods, not a soul in sight and something hits you on the head what do you do?  Better yet, what do you do when you realize whatever hit you was still there? Making a nest on top of your head?  First, you scream, and then you start doing a frantic all over body shake trying to dislodge whatever is there, without having to touch it.  After a 2 minute struggle a giant lizard thuds onto the ground. And he stares.   Most lizards would run away. Not this stupid lizard, he stared, challenging me!  As you can tell, I'm completely over this now.  After all it's been three months.
I've mentioned before that one of my life goals is to travel around the country in an RV. And yes, I'm still taking donations. My mother and step-father are taking a trip out West this summer in their RV.  I'm thinking of tagging along when they aren't paying attention.  I bet they have some really polite perverts er lizards in Arizona.

Bird Stalking...

Forrest Lawn, Thunderbolt, Georgia 2011
Ok so I admit... I had to do a little trespassing to get these photos... But I totally think it was worth it.  Probably only cause I didn't get caught! It really is so neat to live in a place full of wildlife. Savannah just begs me, on a daily basis, to pull out my camera.

I kinda have this weird obsession with birds - or rather -  birds have a really sick obsession with me. They die. All around me. Constantly. Actually, I'm surprised that all of these pelicans were happy and healthy when I left. Maybe karma is finally in my favor.

The Greatest Show on Earth!

Greatest Show On Earth... well according to these pictures there were just a whole lot of elephants. I love the circus, maybe one day they will let me tag along... but for now I stalk them once a year. I have gotten much better about finding good seats though.

BEGINNINGS...

Becton Store 2010 Quitman, Mississippi
I am a Southern girl. I was raised eating grits and reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I think dead things are romantic. My dream is to live in a RV and travel the country and I am currently taking donations to get me there. I am the most socially awkward and shy person I know, but so far I'm the only one complaining.

I like to take pictures, and as of now it's the longest commitment I've ever made. Most times people don't see the world as I do, I think it's pretty important though, to let them see it my way.
